Q&A With LaFargeville (NY) Senior Emeline Barton
What is your favorite movie?
Em: "I like Despicable Me, because I think it's funny with interesting characters."
What is your favorite food?
Em: "My favorite food is strawberries. I like any kind of fruit, but strawberries are the best!"
Who is your favorite athlete?
Em: "This is probably really generic, but I love Caitlin Clark because I have loved watching her compete. It is also inspiring because she has stayed focused through adversity and the craziness that surrounds her."
What was your proudest moment as a basketball player to this point?
Em: "I would have to say my proudest moment so far as a basketball player was when my team won sectionals this past season. It was the first time ever that the girls basketball team has won. I would have to say a close second was when I scored my 1,000th point. It was a goal of mine and it was nice to check it off."
Where do you foresee yourself in ten years' time?
: "Well, hopefully in ten years I have a good job. Not sure what I really want to do yet, though. It would be my dream to still be playing basketball."
Do you have any specific goals you'd like to accomplish between now and this time next year?
Em: "Between this time next year and now, I need to commit to a college, and hopefully we will have won another sectional title and competed it the state championship!"
If you could go anywhere for a seven-day vacation, where would it be?
Em: "I think I would have to say Europe."
Who or what would you say is your greatest inspiration?
Em: "My greatest inspiration when I was younger was my older sisters and parents. I also feel like Caitlin Clark is an inspiration to me."
How would you best describe your strengths on the basketball court?
Em: "One of the gifts I was born with is speed. I love to play fast. I feel like I'm good at getting to the basket and also love to anticipate on defense."
Outside of basketball, what is your favorite downtime activity?
Em: "Outside of basketball, my favorite downtime activity is to hang out with friends and family and just relax."
What would you say for any potential outsider about your home region of Upstate New York?
Em: "My hometown is really small, but it is located in the Thousand Island region, which is along the St. Lawrence River. It is really pretty. We can get feet of snow in winter though, in one storm."
Any random fact you would like to share about yourself?
Em: "I used to play lacrosse at my old school and loved it. I had to leave that school and my new school didn't have lacrosse, so I began playing on the school golf team I'm not the greatest, but at the end of the season I cut my stroke total by 20. đŸ˜‚"
