Q&A With Penn Junior Logan Rumble

At 5'8"/145, Logan is committed to play softball at Northwestern University. She is the first such athlete I have interviewed with connections to such a prominent D1 school in the Big Ten. Possessing noteworthy power for the largest high school in all of Northern Indiana, Logan currently holds 27 doubles and 11 home runs through two prep seasons along with a career batting average of .431. She provided some rather creative answers here...

What is your favorite movie?

Logan: "McFarland, it's a great story! Definitely underrated sports movie."

What is your favorite food?

Logan: "I love all Mexican food. It's definitely a favorite in our household. We are really close with our next door neighbors, and we go out with them all the time and Mexican is a popular choice."

Who is your favorite athlete?

Logan: "Caitlin Clark, because she is a great competitor. She is scrappy, fiery, and a very fun player to watch. I love how she's had such a positive impact on the game of women's basketball."

What was your proudest moment as a softball player to this point?

Logan: "This is probably the obvious answer but committing to Northwestern. It was a very big moment for me, and I was proud that all the hard work I put in for years paid off."

Where do you foresee yourself in ten years' time?

Logan: "Good question, I hope to be working in Chicago while attending grad school to get my MBA in business."

How would you best describe your strengths on the softball diamond?

Logan: "I would say that my biggest strength in probably effort. I'm the kind of kid that will dive in warmups and dive in practice. I feel like you need to lead by example and if you see someone always putting in 100 percent then it makes others feel like they need to match that effort."

If you could go anywhere for a seven-day vacation, where would it be?

Logan: "I want to go on vacation to Europe to visit Paris, and Italy. Italy alone is probably a seven-day trip. My parents went to Paris about five years ago and loved it. We are planning on going on a big family trip the summer after my senior year and that is probably where we will go."

Do you have any specific goals you'd like to accomplish between now and this time next year?

Logan: "Well, the goal to win state is always there especially since we won it my freshman year. A big personal goal of mine is to break our high school career home run record."

Who or what would you say is your greatest inspiration?

Logan: "My dad. He's a very hard worker and the time he has put into helping me better myself in the game of softball may be insane to most. He spent countless hours throwing with me in the yard and even put in a batting cage at work so we would have a place to practice in the winter."

Outside of softball, what is your favorite downtime activity?

Logan: "Ice skating!! We took on skating lessons growing up and there is a skating ribbon in downtown South Bend at Howard Park that I love going to in the winter. I was super excited to see that Northwestern is going to have a skating rink at their new football stadium in the winter. My brother plays hockey for Penn, so as a family we are around skating all the time."

Any random fact you would like to share about yourself?

Logan: "I speak Spanish fluently. I actually attended a Spanish immersion school from preschool to 5th grade. I learned how to write and read in Spanish before English. Everything was taught completely in Spanish until 3rd grade when they started to introduce English into the curriculum."
