Sophia Loden an OVC Champion as a Freshman

The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team won the Ohio Valley Conference this season with a record of 22-6, including 17-1 within the conference itself. With that, freshman Sophia Loden is a champion in her first go-around at the school. A prep double-double machine in Mascoutah, Illinois just outside of St. Louis, Loden has made her move to Indiana worthwhile.

The big 5'11" wing made a three-pointer in four of her first five collegiate games, including a three during the 3rd quarter of the Screaming Eagles' visit to Mackey Arena against Purdue on Nov. 26. Sophia also added two points and five rebounds in 12 minutes of action of a 78-57 USI victory over Tennessee State on Jan. 4.

There are times when the move to D1 competition proves overwhelming for a young athlete, but Loden's potential is evident in Evansville heading into 2024-25 as she offers good size on the perimeter as well as a sweet shooting motion. Best of luck in the OVC tourney and have a good summer, Sophia!!!
